Winged insects on the sill may be termites, not “big ants”

Kenyan extensions often include conduit sleeves through slabs that subterranean termites can follow. During April and May and other swarm periods, check bathrooms, window sills, and expansion joints with a torch for wings, mud tubes, and fine frass, not only when insurance renewal reminds you about the wooden roof.

Repairs that patch concrete without addressing soil contact or voids first are cosmetic. Coordinate any structural pour with whoever owes you a soil treatment certificate before screed and finishes lock access away.

Second hand furniture from markets can carry drywood risk, so inspect joints, laminate lips, and welds before carrying pieces upstairs. When in doubt, book a termite inspection before insurance exclusions start to bite.
